Awards recognise people who contribute to the branch and as such Shearwaters gives awards each year to those members who have made a difference through their participation. Hall of Fame This was introduced in October 2005 and is a nominated award given to a member who has contributed to the Branch above and beyond on a consistent basis over an extended time (as defined by committee).
Geoff Barton Memorial Award This award is awarded to the Shearwaters member who is most active on rides during the year. Points are awarded based on the following table and the member with the most points accrued at the end of the year (October to September) will be awarded the trophy. It is a perpetual trophy which the winner holds for the 12 months.
Rear Guard Award Each pillion on a ride gets 1 point and the pillion with the most points, is awarded this trophy. This is a perpetual trophy and is awarded in October annually
Mega-Saur-Us Award This award will be given to the rider who attends the most rides during the year and is awarded annually in October. This is to recognise the rider who participates in the most club rides. The winner of the Geoff Barton Memorial Award is ineligible to win the Mega-Saur-Us Award
Points System: All Riders: You will receive 1 point for attending. Points will not be awarded for less than a full days attendance on a ride. The more you participate in Branch Rides, the better your chances of winning Shearwaters awards. Ride Leader:If you lead a day ride, you will get 5 points total. If you lead a multi day ride, you will receive 10 points total irrespective if the ride is for 2 or more days. It is only the Ride Leader that receives the higher point total for multi day rides. Tailend Charlie:If you are Tail End Charlie on a ride, you will get 3 points total. For multi day rides, the points are awarded to the nominated Tail End Charlie for the first day only.
Mutton Bird Award This award is voted by committee. Each month each committee member awards a vote to a member (much like Brownlow voting) they consider has contributed to the Branch above and beyond. These votes are tallied and the member with the most votes gets the award. This is a clubman award to recognise members who contribute to the success of the branch. Committee members are not eligible for this award. This is a perpetual trophy and is awarded in October annually.
The Butterfly Award This is a perpetual award given in October each year as an encouragement award to the female Rider (not pillion) most deserving. This award can also be used for an outstanding achievement by a female Rider (not pillion) so may be awarded to a recipient more than once. It does not have to awarded every year. This award was donated by Leda Sant.
Training Wheels Award his is a monthly award and is given to the rider who needs recognition and encouragement in the event they fail to keep their bike upright. This award is always given in the spirit of fun. The Pockets Award This monthly award and is given to the rider who has lost their bike keys while on a club event or weekend ride.
